22 has been the official representative of St. Andrew’s, Cambridge
in Bulgaria for nine years now. St. Andrew's was established in
Cambridge in 1976 as the first independent A-level high school institution.
It is also among the largest university centres around the world.
The objective of St. Andrew’s is to create an academic environment
which facilitates the students’ activities and enables them to develop
fully their skills and talents, as well as receive in-depth knowledge
and get high scores at the exams.
St. Andrew's is authorized by the UK Ministry of Education, as
well as the British Accreditation Council for Independent Further
and Higher Education.
The college has a separate subsidiary, Select English, which offers
courses of English as a Foreign Language in London. Select English
is accredited by the British Council.
St. Andrew’s buildings are situated in the city centre close to
the colleges of Cambridge University and the Central City Library.
Cambridge is in the east of England, one hour by train from London.
It is one of the most beautiful university cities in the world,
an ideal milieu for students of all ages. The city’s environment
is safe and quiet, providing many libraries, bookshops, art galleries,
museums, theatres, cinemas, sports centres and restaurants.
School Facilities
The College has twenty-three classrooms, two science laboratories, a computer studies room, an art room, a quiet study room and a students' common room. The College also makes use of the many excellent facilities provided by the city of Cambridge including the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Complex, with a new swimming pool, where students can take part in a wide range of sporting activities including football, squash, indoor tennis, badminton, basketball, weight training and aerobics.
Accommodation
The students can choose between the Halls of Residence at the college or the Host Families.
The Halls of Residence
* Highfield House is situated about 600 metres from Station Road’s main building providing accommodation for 14 students in single or double rooms.
* Hamilton Lodge is in the town’s centre. It offers comfortable accommodation for 13 students in single or double rooms.
* Lyndewode Road is situated between Station Road and Free School Lane offering accommodation for 13 students in single or double rooms.
The Host Families
Equal care is taken about the accommodation of those students who prefer to stay with a host family in Cambridge. Parents and students have the assurance that St. Andrew's is registered with the British Government's Department for Education and has a statutory obligation to ensure that all families' backgrounds are thoroughly checked. Inspections of all our facilities, including host family accommodation, have been made by Her Majesty's Inspectors and by inspectors of The British Accreditation Council. The College's Accommodation Officer makes regular visits to all host family accommodation to ensure that high standards of hygiene and food are maintained and that our students are being well cared for.
Tuition
The academic success of St. Andrew’s is based on good teaching given in small groups and we have a staff/student ratio that means that classes rarely have more than 9 students. St. Andrew's emphasises the importance of individual attention to cater for each student's particular needs. St. Andrew's teachers are well qualified and many have a long commitment to the College. Teaching methods focus on the development of effective study skills and a thorough preparation for examinations.
The College depends on good examination results to enable its students to enter the top universities. Since its foundation over 2 000 have entered university including the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.
The College continues to achieve a high level of success and aims to place all students in the most prestigious British and international universities.The College sends parents, guardians and sponsors reports on academic progress at the end of each term. Reports also contain information on attendance and give advice to students on ways of improving their academic performance.
Each student has a personal supervisor who monitors progress, gives support and encouragement as needed and keeps parents or guardians informed about all matters concerning the student's welfare and academic achievements
Since its foundation thousands of our students have succeeded in obtaining places at some of the most prestigious universities in Britain, including Cambridge and Oxford. In recent years St. Andrew's has achieved a success rate of between 95% -100% in placing at universities all those students seeking higher education. Guidance is given to students on all aspects of the university application process. This includes help with the completion of the UCAS form and advice on the choice of university and course. Particular help and advice is offered to students applying for the more competitive subjects such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science and Law.
Students can apply to universities in Britain, the USA, Canada and other countries.
St. Andrew’s offers year-round tuition in the following programmes:
GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education)
The GCSE course is offered to students between the ages of 14 and 16 years of age. The course incorporates both Science and Humanities subjects meeting the requirements of the Department of Education It is an essential preparation for study at A-level, particularly for those students who wish to apply for the more competitive universities.

Students must be at least 14 years of age at the beginning of the GCSE course. Students should have an English level equal to IELTS 5.5 if they are to achieve C grades or above in the final examinations. Students should provide evidence of their previous educational achievement.
A-level (Advanced Level)
Entry Requirements
- Students should be at least 16 years of age by 31 December in Year 1 of their course.
- Students should have an IELTS level of 5.0 minimum (or equivalent).
- In the Sciences and Mathematics students must satisfy the College that they have a sound background knowledge of the subjects they wish to study before they begin their A-level course.
Students initially choose 4 subjects from one of the A-level programmes offered below:

The University Foundation Course
St. Andrew’s has helped many overseas students to enter UK universities through its University Foundation Courses. An alternative to the A-Level courses, this programme enables the students to continue their education in the universities within 8-10 months, instead of 2 years.

Life and Sports
It is important for students to have a good balance in their lives between academic work and recreation. One of the best reasons for studying English in England is that students continue to learn outside the classroom.
Extracurricular activities in Cambridge include sports such as tennis, football and basketball. Other activities, such as aerobics, dancing or horse-riding can be arranged where demand is sufficient. Supervised visits to cities of cultural interest such as London and Norwich are organized on a regular basis.
Students are offered the opportunity to explore areas of interest such as history, legal issues, mathematics, politics and the arts through guest speakers and visits.
In addition, students can make use of the Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre which is within easy walking distance of the College buildings. The centre offers a wide range of indoor sports facilities including a swimming-pool.
