SQUAW VALLEY ACADEMY is a college-preparatory international boarding school at Lake Tahoe, California for 100+ co-ed students in grades 6-12. Students live in en-suite dormitory rooms or in off-campus SVA houses with SVA staff and other SVA students. Many SVA students are US citizens, and other students have come from Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Norway, Scotland, Russia, Spain, China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Egypt, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
The average class size is eight to twelve students. SVA is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, with courses approved by University of California, Berkeley.
All students participate in outdoor sports: skiing, snowboarding, soccer, hiking, rock climbing, camping, and mountain biking. Students ski or snowboard daily during the winter months at Squaw Valley USA. On the weekend, students enjoy mountain sports and activities, supervised by SVA staff. These include: mountain biking,  hiking,  river rafting,  skateboarding at local skate parks, field sports such as soccer and ultimate frisbee, bowling,  amusement Parks, museums and many others! During holidays, students enjoyed Disneyland, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.

  • Squaw Valley Academy Middle School - Grades 6-8

The SVA Middle School is a self-contained program designed to meet the individual academic and social needs of the middle school child.

  • Squaw Valley Academy High School - Grades 9-12

Our faculty prepares students for the college of their choice by meeting the standards for the University of California system. Our graduates maintain a 100% college acceptance rate into an average of three universities or colleges. Students may receive dual high school and college credit recognized by the California State University and University of California schools by participating in the Academic Enrichment program at a local community college.

  • Squaw Valley Academy Summer School

Students may attend summer school for three or six weeks. SVA Summer School provides students the opportunity to attend ESL classes, improve English skills, prepare for September classes, and enjoy outdoor sports. SVA is a safe campus in the Sierra Nevada at elevation 1,900 meters.
International Application Requirements:

  • Completed SVA International;
  • Student Application Form;
  • $250 non-refundable application fee;
  • One page hand-written essay in English;
  • Recommendation letter from a teacher or school official;
  • Transcript of grades in native language AND in English;
  • A copy of a bank statement showing family has sufficient funds to pay tuition and fees;
  • SVA does not require TOEFL or SLEP tests;
Outdoor Education and Adventure

Outdoor Education is an integral part of the mission and philosophy at Squaw Valley Academy. By participating in the Outdoor Education program, SVA students learn to respect themselves, their peers, and the natural world around them. Self-reliance and compassion are important steps in improving leadership skills, communication, and problem solving. The basic Outdoor Education curriculum emphasizes safety and judgment, leadership and teamwork, outdoor skills, environmental study, and wilderness ethics.

Description of Fees:
Boarding Student Tuition includes tuition, room, and board. Day student tuition includes tuition and lunches.
Student Accounts are initially funded at $4,000 for boarding students and $3,000 for day students in addition to tuition stated above.
The student account covers the Squaw Valley USA ski pass, two weeklong Outdoor Education Trips, local transportation, drug
testing, class-related trips, weekend activities, laboratory fees, technology fees, and other minor school-related activities. Student
Account statements are mailed quarterly to parents. Parents order uniforms and books separately.
Boarding Student Damage Deposit of $525 is a separate account that parents provide. This account covers anything beyond normal
wear-and-tear of school property.
