Founded in Dublin in 1986, the Emerald Cultural Institute has built up a reputation among English language schools for professionalism and academic excellence. General and Professional English Courses are held year-round at the headquarters in Palmerston Park, Dublin. Emerald also run Summer Courses from June to September.
Year-round centre is located in Palmerston Park, a prime residential district within walking distance of Dublin city centre. Summer Centres – Notre Dame, Sandford Park, St Raphaela’s, Froebel College.


General English Courses are available on a year-round basis and a social programme is provided with each course. Beginners’ courses are available on fixed dates only. General courses are designed for students at all levels of English and the aim is to improve students’ fluency and accuracy in English whatever their starting level. There is written and spoken placement test in the beginning of each course.

Academic Year Programme - This programme is designed for students wishing to study for a long period of time at the Emerald Cultural Institute. The academic year can be structured to suit each individual student’s needs. Students who wish to participate in a more intensive academic study programme can incorporate additional afternoon tuition into their year.

Specialised and Professional Development Programmes - the Emerald Cultural Institute offers one-toone and group courses designed to suit the particular needs of various professions and groups. The programmes enable participants to communicate effectively using vocabulary and terminology relevant to their work. These programmes can include: simulated discussions and meetings, problem solving, speaking English on the telephone, writing in English, role-plays and presentations. Each programme also includes classes in General English. An intermediate level of English is recommended for all professional group courses.

Courses for Non-Native Teachers of English - these courses have been specifically designed for non-native teachers of English at primary-school and secondary-school level. Both courses help teachers to develop their classroom skills and to prepare lessons effectively. The main focus is on practical ideas and materials development. Teachers’ courses are held in July and August and are subject to a minimum number of 8 participants per course. Total course duration of 50 hours including lessons, workshops and cultural activities.  

Junior Winter Programme - the Junior Winter Programme is offered from September to May and is designed for closed groups of young students between the ages of 12 and 17 years. It combines expert English language tuition with an optional programme of extra-curricular activities suitable for this age group and students are given the opportunity to practise the English language in a wide variety of contexts.

Junior Summer Programmes - Holiday Courses at the Emerald Cultural Institute are lively and friendly, combining expert English language tuition with a daily programme of extra-curricular activities. The Summer Courses are designed to meet the needs and interests of the participants and our different centres allow us to provide the best environment for each learner.
